Young Musical Director joins the ranks of the Band
Following a recent 'job advert', the band welcomes a new Musical Director

After almost 55 years of leading the band as the conductor, Stuart Cates has retired from the role and returned to the Trombone ranks. We would like to say a massive thank you to Stuart for his life long commitment to the band!
Birchington Silver Band is excited to announce Louis Parker-Gorman as our new Musical Director. At just 20 years old, Louis brings impressive musical credentials and fresh vision to the role.
A Dover native, Louis has an extensive musical background, mastering trumpet and piano from an early age under respected mentors Ivy Wilson and former Royal Marine Keith Davies. His tenure as principal trumpet with the White Cliffs Symphonic Winds showcases his capability, dedication, and leadership. His performances at prestigious events, including the Deal Green Christmas Carol Service and a memorable solo performance of "One Moment in Time" at Sir Roger Manwood’s School, highlight his talent and passion for music.
Although health challenges prevented Louis from joining the Royal Marine Band Service, he seized the opportunity to redirect his musical journey through conducting. Birchington Silver Band was highly recommended by his musical peers, and he is eager to share his knowledge and experience, helping the band refine dynamics, intonation, and musicianship.
Louis emphasises youth engagement, urging parents to support their children’s musical endeavours despite the ups and downs of learning an instrument. His message to young musicians is one of perseverance, encouragement, and collective growth.
We warmly welcome Louis and look forward to a bright future under his guidance!
